Last weekend, the sun was shining, a pleasant 70 degrees, as we went through our various tasks to prepare the farm for the long winter months ahead. Rolling up water hoses and collecting vegetables, we were astounded by all we grew this season, commenting on successes with cabbage, tromboncino squash, and corn, and forgiving ourselves the plants that didn’t make it – better luck next year.
Spring and summer were driving, constant movement. These months are full of visiting friends and family, hard work at Midori farm for Kevin and Ashleigh at Stand for Her Land campaign, and endless flipping of rental units (get it while the getting is good). Amidst all that, we were still able to welcome honeybees to Flowrohr’s, planted many herbs and flowers that will go into Flowrohr’s seasonings, and said goodbye to the orange pumpkin paint on the house – just before the weather turned.
Fall harvest feels real in so many ways this year. On Sunday, we looked out over our fields and saw growth and food where a pile of bramble once seemed impenetrable. We feel the joy of continuing and building relationships with friends and family, new and old. We’re giving ourselves a break every now and then with our new (to us) teardrop trailer, inviting travel and new experiences in our little “gnome home”. Finishing our 3rd season in Brinnon, we’re grateful for the abundance of love and kindness from so many of you and looking forward to cozying in for the winter season to dream what the year ahead will hold.
